Overview
This guide provides an overview of the configuration settings required in Proofpoint for enabling the outbound SMTP relay feature. The outbound SMTP relay feature is used for compliance archives that require submission over SMTP.
Prerequisites
This guide applies to customers using the following Proofpoint Email Protection products:
- Proofpoint Essentials

Getting Setup
Enable the outbound relay feature
Review the configuration requirements outlined in the following help center article:

Ensure that Nuclei's IP addresses have been added to the list of Sending Servers.
Add Nuclei IP Addresses to Safe Sender List

Ensure that Nuclei's IP addresses have been added to the Safe Sender List.
Add Nuclei's IP Addresses to Non-Throttled Hosts
- From your Proofpoint admin center, navigate to Email Firewall, then SMTP Rate Control.
- Select "Non-throttled hosts"
- Create a new, separate rule for each of Nuclei's IP addresses
- Type: Sender IP Address
- Condition: Equals
- Value: {IP Address}
