Overview
This guide provides an overview of the Custom SMTP Delivery configuration settings required in Global Relay for enabling delivery of archive records over SMTP. The SMTP protocol can be used to submit archiving records to Global Relay for capture sources not otherwise supported by Global Relay.
Prerequisites
This guide applies to customers using the following Global Relay products:
- Global Relay Archive
TLDR
- Open support request with Global Relay (add new Custom SMTP Delivery service)
- Complete the Global Relay Custom SMTP Questionnaire
- Complete the "SMTP Next Step" instructions from Global Relay Support
- Submit connection details in setup of Global Relay destination
Getting Setup
Open Support Request with Global Relay
Review the configuration requirements outlined in the following help center article:
Global Relay - Connectors - Custom SMTP
Select "Get the Connector", and complete the "Get your connector" form:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Company Name
- Phone Number
- Country
- Connector(s):
In the "Connector(s)" field, add the following:
"Custom SMTP Delivery of (Capture Source Type) Data"
Replace (Capture Source Type) with the type of content that Nuclei will be archiving into Global Relay.
Complete the Global Relay Custom SMTP Questionnaire
After submitting the "Get Your Connector" support, Global Relay Support will reach out requesting completion of a "Custom SMTP Questionnaire".
- Can you deliver messages in email (.eml) format?
- Yes
- Can you or an external provider add a Global relay X- header** to the message header?
- Yes
- How many users will you be sending data for?
- Depends on total users in capture scope
- Average message size and intended usage per day and/or per month?
- Depends on source. Text-based sources can easily be under 25k per message. Audio or video attachments will increase size accordingly.
Complete the "SMTP Next Step" Instructions from Global Relay Support
After review of the Custom SMTP Questionnaire, Global Relay will send you "SMTP Next Step" instructions. Global Relay will also provide the associated SMTP credentials via secure email that will be used by Nuclei when submitting content to Global Relay.
Configure details in Global Relay destination
Global Relay will share with you some specific and unique information for submission of data to your archive:
- SMTP host name
- SMTP journaling inbox address
- Username
- Password
- X-Header
Once you have gathered these, they can be configured in Nuclei by clicking the following link to create a new destination:
If the destination already exists, just access the configuration in your Destinations module and complete any changes or the authorization.
