Overview
Nuclei provides Zoom customers with the ability to automatically export, enrich, and archive all Zoom Team Chat communication, including:
- Private messages
- Group messages
- Message attachments
As a first step, the Zoom Chat archiving app must be deployed from the Zoom Marketplace. Once complete, Nuclei will automatically import your organizations Zoom Team Chat content and related activity. Content can be retained with Nuclei, or exported for review and retention in your existing compliance archive.
Prerequisites
- Zoom Basic, Pro, Business, or Enterprise account
- Advanced chat encryption must be disabled
Scope
Zoom Chat
Chat messages sent or received by users within your own Zoom organization are supported for archiving. The following types of metadata are supported for each Zoom Chat message:
- Date / Time
- Message Files
- Message ID
- Message Sender
- Message Recipient
- Session ID
The following chat information is not supported by Zoom for archiving:
- Screen capture
- Animated GIF images
- Code snippets
- Voice message
- Video message
Getting Setup
Nuclei
To enable archiving of Zoom Team Chat content:
- Login to https://app.nuclei.ai
- Select "Configuration" > "Sources"
- Select "New"
- Select "Source Type", then select "Zoom Chat"
- Add a "Description" to the feed
- Select "Create Source"
- Select "Create Authorization", and complete the OAuth approval workflow.
To disable archiving:
- Disable "Capture Enabled" in the Nuclei source configuration.
Configuration
Zoom
To configure Zoom Chat for the entire Zoom Organization:
- Login to https://admin.zoom/us, and select "My Account"
- Select "Account Management", and then "Account Settings"
- Select the "Zoom Chat" tab
- Deactivate "Code Snippet" (optional, for compliance use cases)
- Deactivate "Enable advanced chat encryption"
To enable Zoom Admins to deploy the archiving app:
- Login to https://admin.zoom/us, and select "My Account"
- Select "User Management", and then "Roles"
- Select "Admin", and then "Edit"
- Select the "Role Settings" tab
- Scroll down to "Chat Management"
- Activate "View" to enable API access for "Chat messages"
- Activate "View" to enable API access for "Chat channels"
Afterwards your Zoom Chat settings will be enforced for all Zoom users in your organization.
Enable Chat Archiving (Organization)
By default Zoom Chat archiving will take place for all active Chat users on the Zoom account.
Enable Chat Archiving (Zoom Group)
To enable a selective archiving configuration (optional) whereby Zoom Chat messages are only archived for users based on their Zoom Group Membership:
- Login to https://admin.zoom/us, and select "My Account"
- Select "User Management", and then "Groups"
- Select "Add Group", and enter a new Group Name and Description
- Select the link next to "Total Members"
- Add all group members that should be subject to Chat archiving.
- Submit a web ticket containing the Group Name for the newly created Group(s).
Afterwards, Nuclei will update the feed configuration in our infrastructure which will enable selective archiving of Zoom Chat messages from users that are members of the submitted group.
